MO!

"Mo!" is Lucy's first word. She uttered it yesterday. You might be asking yourself, what does "mo" mean? Well, I was trying to feed her a pancake and she was groaning...so I was showing her the sign language word for "more" and I kept saying it over again...until she blurted out, "Mo!" She did it 6 times. And tonight she did it again. She's thrilled with herself. We are thrilled too.

Dear Sheila, Oh.

Oh. Emma asked me why adults say, "oh, ok" so often. I don't KNOW! Anyway, hoping your headaches are swiftly resolved....as drugs and herbs are only a short-term help at best. I expect 133 responses to this posting, or I shall quit, immediately. Or, not. PS This photo is entitled, Charlie in Jail, is actually at the Brookfield Zoo on a very hot day.

dear amy

the last post was in response to your question about my headaches, so I do not understand why I am being called empty. Perhaps you were calling my gnomes empty. Or you thought I'd called you a gnome. Very sorry about that. I know you are not a gnome. Amy Roller is no gnome! There, are we ok now?

As ever,
Sheiler

PS very nice pics of the kiddies. When are they going to be given their own laptops to post their own comments on Club852??

New Pics, by Amy

Sheila, I do read the blog, but when people don't respond to my responses, it seems, well, empty. So there you have it. Sorry about the headaches. What can be done?

basically it's my own little diary read by gnomes

I write here but the traffic to this blog went from like 100 hits a day to 0 so I'm writing to myself. la la la. Katie, sorry to hear about sucking monkey balls. We have chicken or lasagna tonight for dinner. Our guests have gone and now we're left with an empty but clean house. It's soo quiet. Maria's sister Cathy and kidzzz came for the week. Michelle, Doug and their son Jake came for the weekend last week too so the house was jammed with people. Neighbors walking by might have seen part of a head coming out of the window by the fireplace, and someone's left shoe out of the window by the office. That's how jammed up we were. It felt like the wedding all over again with those characters (brother Jean was here for a day too and Cody and David) here but not anyone representing Club 852. Crazy Stephen (the artist in the white suit) called us to come to his house (didn't feel like getting in the car again), and Marthoune called us asking if she could either buy Crazy Stephen's house sight unseen (but we love it so much that we talk about it) or our house. The party house is partly inhabited these days with aunts, kids who love Tookie, and other people, all Greek. Tookie is waiting for his morning walk and it's 12:24 pm.

I've been entertaining a headache since end of June. My eyesight is affected in that I read like a dyslexic person and see through shadows on the sides of my vision. Technically I have perfect eyesight and don't need glasses yet so that means that either my brain is affected or that I am under the influence of gnomes. Can't tell which yet since I get my next neurologist appt on August 20th. Previously I would get a small headache which would then grow in intensity so that I would be unable to function for 2 days - 2 weeks. When we were at Judy's house in Magnolia she insisted that we go to the emergency room so that I could at least get some good drugs. So we did and I did and then was able to get my neurologist to prescribe more good drugs sight unseen for the time being. But the drugs puffed up my face which screwed up our filming of the podcast that we're doing for MIT. I'd thought I had it under control taking this herb called Boswellia, which it did for the most part, but then it made my burp fumes that I could actually see. So I turned to my good friend CoQ10 which worked better than Boswellia but is expensive. I ran out. And then the headaches came back. At which point both Maria and Judy said, :Which is more expensive: CoQ10 or headaches? Plus the puffy faced drugs I was given are veerrryyy expensive. And MIT will only pay for them once a month. So if I need more in the same month I cough up the $150 on my own.

Back to CoQ10 land, I've entertained the small nagging at the back of my right skull for a month. Have not had to take anything more than Excedrin, and that only 3-4 times since geting back on CoQ10 this month. So it's good. But my ability to see is still not perfect like it once was.

Katie, Tookie loved Magnolia as much as you did. Everyone wanted to pet him all of the time and the locals don't call the cops if you take your dogs off leash on the beach after or before hours. Who knew? I thought it was such a stuck up town, but they do love them some dog. Maria loved it too. But it was much damper there than in say Hull, both beach towns. We shall see more about where we are moving once we get our podcast mojo going. I have two weeks off in August to work with Maria on editing the film.

When you close your eyes what color(s) do you see?

Michelle asked us this and said most people see black. Maria sees red. Chelsea (Cathy's daughter) sees purple. Cathy saw two colors. I see black. Michelle says that those people who can see diff colors (than black) are visionaries who will help people transition to living a better, more richly lived life.

Probably with the gnomes.

It's been awhile since I've checked this page out. I forget about it from time to time. I can't believe you guys were at Judy's place. That's wild. I LOVE Magnolia, and the pictures I took while I was there. I don't think Danny believes that I've been to such a beautiful place in real life. They're all post cards. Phyah. Sure.
In response to Sheila:
But katie, have you seen the new Al Gore movie yet?
No . What is it? I don't get out much.
Happy Birthday Danny!
He says thank you. We threw him a big 30th birthday surprise party and he was kind of surprised. It was a good time. Pictures to follow...

Right now I'm awake at 1:00 am because I worked until 11pm. Yeah, today I worked from 3pm-11pm. Tomorrow night I work from 11pm-7am. Yes, this job sucks big fat monkey balls. Mom's praying to "Tony, Tony Turn Around" so that I can find a new job.

I'm sure you've all heard the news on www.myspace.com It's nutty, crazy, kooky, whatever. It can be bad (like all the press it's been getting) if put into immature, ignorant hands. For 26-soon-to-be-27-year-olds it's a fun way to chat with out of town friends. I was putzing around after I found out that Chris Corkery has a profile on there, and I thought, this is a really good thing for 5can to have b/c you can get your music out there for so many people to hear. So yeah, he's way ahead of me, and has a profile on myspace. Right now I'm actually listening to some of his music online, and at the same time Danny's cat Jasper is sniffing...something...in the air, bopping his head up and down to figure out where the scent is coming from, and it looks like he's jamming to Sean's music. I told Amy about looking around online for Sean, and she said, "How do you just find your cousin online?"
I say here you go: www.sonicbids.com/tooflessseancorkery.
There's some other links on that page so you can listen to other music. He's really cool. But you guys already know that.

The time has finally come. I've gotten married and so have my best friends from junior high. Well not quite, but Allison has, and Erin will next summer. Al's ... in the bridal gown, and Erin's the short one in the front. She was my maid of honor. We're wearing cute matching dresses cuz we were in the wedding. This is basically a picture of me and a bunch of people you guys probably don't know (except Amy), but you know, sometimes I like putting pictures online. I'm a geek like that. What do you expect? I met my husband online. I'm allowed to be a computer geek.

dude, I was just about to take an aspirin

He was a spry guy who tended to jump about rather than walk from room to room. I did not think he remembered me when I'd been in his apt after Neil and Valerie's performance at the Lion D'Or in Montreal, so I went to Neil's kitchen past clutches of other people to get a glass of water. I was tired from driving Maria and me from Hull, MA to Montreal. My left arm was sunburned. My left thigh was just a bit of brown. And I was waiting for Maria to say OK she'd had enough, and get Valerie's keys so we could crash in her apt.

I gulped water down as monkey man came up to me and started up the conversation we'd last had in his own apt about refrigerator sized servers so that he could house numerous cartoon characters in it to create a community of cartoon workers. Or something like that. He spoke fast and quietly with enough of a French accent to make me bend close. "Oh really," I said finally, hoping that was a correct response. "Wow" I concluded. I was barely able to hold my head up. tired tired tired.

I was left alone in the kitchen with the bags of unopened potato chips which I opened. I munched, correctly thinking that the host would forget about ordering real food. I headed to Neil's front room. It's filled with real plants. A dark red paint covers the wall. There is one chair in it positioned in front of the window that's getting an actual breeze. I sit in the dark, thinking that if anyone discovers I'm here it will be confirmed that I am weird. Next thing I know, the overhead light gets flipped on, and Valerie's lipsticked mouth is in front of me talking about her apartment and how to get in. I think I understand her, but she speaks so quickly and she mixes in personal talk that interferes with the needed apt information. Her eyes are popping out as she sort of pretends that the bald guy who hovers near her always is not really her boyfriend, or is he? "Me, I have thirty three years and I have known him for twelve, it's like we have grown up together, and I do not know how he feels about me."

"So I use this key to get in the front door, and these other keys to get to the two locks on your door?"

"And men if they do not first respect me as a woman, they cannot expect to see me as a wife or mother!" Her lipstick stays on her lips without getting on her teeth. I want to ask her about that, how she does that, but know that I will never ever be able to ask her more than one question per visit with her, and that she will never answer it.

Somehow she believes me that I have followed her instructions and gives me the keys. I follow her back to the living room to get another glass of water. Maria is there talking to Neil's daughter Charlie. "We're gonna go soon," Maria promises. I look around and see really nice people I've enjoyed talking to in the past, but have no energy to say anything. I think if I sit back on one of Neil's big cushions and look relaxed and not try to get into the myriad of conversations around me that people will leave me in my own sphere. Also, I am starting to get one of my headaches. I wait before taking an excedrin. It's at a 1.0 level, 1 on a scale of 10. I figure if it gets up to a 2.5 I'll take one. I'd taken a quite a bit for the past few days and try to clean out my system when possible. Too much excedrin can harm the liver...or is that just Tylenol?

Neil is back in the room and he's directing the monkey to me. "Do Sheila, do Sheila," he encourages. Monkey is darting around looking for something on the cluttered coffee table. "What does he do?" I ask. "He's psychic. He's really good at it, and I think you'll love it," he says. Well if neil is encouraged, I am too.

Monkey sits near me so that we can look into each other's eyes. He's got slips of paper and a pencil, and I am reminded of the game Balderdash, the game of Learning Laughing and Lying. "Think to yourself the name of your mother." I do. "Think about her name and then look right into my eyes." I see his blue green eyes lock into mine and then shift as though they're dials on a safe. I don't think I'd ever seen that kind of movement before in a pair of eyes. He jolts a little and then writes something down on the first slip of paper. He crumples it up into a spit wad and places it before me. "Now write down the answer and put it in front of you." I do this, thinking, No way will he get Kayrene. No way. Maria doesn't even know it and she's known mom for 5 years?

He reads my answer slowly. "How do you pronounce this name?" he asks. I tell him, emphasis on Reen. He nods his head and then says, think about a four digit number and then look at me. His eyes do that weird dialing thing again and then he writes down and creates spit ball #2. I write my answer down.

Same thing goes for month of my birthday and whether it's black or white.

I then open the four spit balls. Karine is the first answer. He's spelled Kayrene phonetically in his Quebecer way, He gets 8852. He gets Janvier. He gets the 50-50 shot of white.

I announce his power to the party. I go to Maria who loves all things psychic. "Do me, do me," she pleads. I sit with her and the spit balls he makes and he gets her info correct too. Philomene Mari especially. She demands more of him. "Do MORE!" He doesn't want to do more, since he's emphasized that it's a party trick. No hassles. But she gets him to give more answers. The name of her father. Her last name. The name of her editiing house. She demands that he answer non-party tricks. She insists that he's not just psychic, but is a healer too. She asks him silently to take away my headaches, which I find out about the next day. A moment later, he holding his head. "Ow, ow!" He asks his girlfriend Isabelle for aspirin. She looks in her bag but doesn't have any. I go to my bag and pull out the Excedrin that I was going to take but don't have to anymore. I hand him the tablets and say, I had a headache. But you must have taken it from me. He almost starts crying, Ow, Ow. He takes the pills, gulps them down and is gone. Ten minutes later he gives me the thumbs up. His headache is gone. I don't say much. because mine is still gone. I feel guilty that he's got my headache and has to take pills for relief. He kind of steers clear of me, and I don't blame him. It's probably why he jumps around from person to person so that he doesn't take on too much.

Also I am energized beyond belief, the 2nd wind kicking in, and I stay in Neil's pink room that's filled with plastic flowers and plants. There's a window in this room, too, though not much of a breeze. We talk with Isabelle some more and finally leave for Valerie's new apt. Her bald man friend. Simone, whose name makes me laugh thanks to Joe and katie's little white dog, is looking very happy as Maria and I take off with Valerie's keys.

Lucy, living up to her name....

This is Lucy Roller. We KNOW she's a Roller, because, well, she rolls. She rolls across the room, and then gets her head stuck in the bookcase.

to be famous and yet wear a toolbelt

maria and I have been staying at Judy's house in Magnolia, MA this past week and it's been weirdly great. Great because it's beautiful. Weird because, well, you know, it looks funny on paper. We are all having a blast however. Tookie is a big hit.

Maria shot a video demo for Judy to apply for a tv show as super contractor. We just stuck it on a webpage for general consumption, popcorn not included.

But katie, have you seen the new Al Gore movie yet?

Happy Birthday Danny!

Sheila, you are weird

Sheila, you're weird.
Check out our cats, Stanley (left) and Jasper. Since they are cats, they are very good at this: napping. Danny and I had a really busy weekend- I was in a wedding and then I threw him a 30th birthday party for Danny. So on Monday we needed to recoup after a huge weekend and we took naps, like our wonderful cats.

Mother Doesn't Want a Dog

Mother doesn't want a dog.
Mother says they smell,
And never sit when you say sit,
Or even when you yell.
And when you come home late at night
And there is ice and snow,
You have to go back out because
The dumb dog has to go.

Mother doesn't want a dog.
Mother says they shed,
And always let the strangers in
And bark at friends instead,
And do disgraceful things on rugs,
And track mud on the floor,
And flop upon your bed at night
And snore their doggy snore.

Mother doesn't want a dog.
She's making a mistake.
Because, more than a dog, I think
She will not want this snake.

what chance, deep breaths?

Maria and I went to yoga two days ago, the baby class, where all you do is lie down and breathe with your "addobmen" and maybe get up and do a little salute to the sun. Which is what I can't recall, but a bunch of poses that I couldn't do. Maria could do less. We did not stand on our heads. We stretched some but mostly breathed in and out in very obvious ways. For instance if we were standing in line waiting for tickets to the opera while doing the breaths, our opera gowns would have busted the zippers at every inhalation.

Afterwards we did nothing but eat salad at home, cold peanut noodles, and "rested". Maria rested all day before going to bed really early. "If breathing does this to you, what would adding a candy bar do?" I asked her. "ohhhhhh," maria groaned. "mmphhhphhkdsjijf" she concluded.

Meanwhile I was caught up with all of these memories of stuff at Naropa where I went to college (last undergrad college). A lot of the professors and administrators there were there when "it" was just a gathering of hippies to hear this weird Tibetan guy talk. They stayed with it and got off of drugs at his prodding, according to my religious studies prof and my cog science prof. Back when they were going after the mind altering events .. of mind alteration...but somehow got themselves to stop in favor of meditation.

I caught Maria staring longingly at a fresh cilantro leaf yesterday and knew that Naropa wasn't far behind me.

why I needed to get my tetanus shot 2 days ago

A Afamily of ducks. A murky part of the lagoon. The muck that covered up all of the white parts of his face. His glaring blue eye from beneath the dripping black gore. His wide open mouth, white teeth like a certain character in Little Red Riding Hood. A smaller dog. And the two women walking the shorto, fully coiffed and pressed for their walk out in nature, weird, I know. And no, I have not seen the new Al Gore movie yet.

all I lacked was an axe

OK so Will is not cooperating right now. Maybe he's FINALLY finishing that kitchen in Dover. Maybe Jane is making him get down and give her twenty push-ups. Maybe he's teaching the kids to learn how to make dovetail grooves so *they* can slap together a showroom quality wooden chair in twenty minutes, just like him.

Meanwhile, I've been out running through the woods in a blue wig and a wet suit and waders trying to get my character down for a special video thingy which I'm not at liberty to discuss on line. I've taken acting classes. Theatre was my minor, but that was a long time ago. And putting it to practice now is a challenge. But what's even more challenging is my costume which has made me feel like a lumberjack (without the axe and flannel) even though my character is probably the farthest thing from it.

Some of my action shots were filmed in Mont Tremblant because it's pretty and there's a lot of water and woods there. We looked for a place for me to jump as though I were jumping off of a cliff. We found a little stream running parallel to the big lake, one of the thousands of big lakes ok, and a bridge for me to jump off of. Maria has me raise my hands. She gives me great direction. I follow it to the T, make my move and land, and then, eeewwwww I smell toilet toilet everywhere and guess that I've just jumped into the septic system of Tremblant that's supposed to fool tourists into thinking streamly thoughts. I fall and put my hands into it and the muck sucks at my waders so it's a bit of a struggle to get myself out. I go running right to the big lake and jump in and wash myself off, all the while the blue wig is teetering off of my head.

My big acting experience, take two.

introducing will

Hi folks, all three of you. I've been out of posting about stuff, well, ok about Tookie, since I've been battling headaches that are more like migraines but have been referred to as tension headaches even though the drugs prescribed for the TH are no good since they are too weak.

And since there are more lurkers than there are contributors, I thought I'd extend invitations to other folks who might have easily gone to visit Club 852 if they were ever in Lisle, but who have not done so officially. Seeing as this is a virtual replica of Club852 complete with orange linoleum floor, I figure the visits to this blog count. Hereuntoaforementioned is Will. I posted something of his in an earlier blog entry. But am now giving him the horse straps to wheel around his own buggy. Terrible, terrible metaphors. But if you hate them that much, why don't you write about it??

Welcome Will. Please please please blast away!

Coinky-drinky

What a coincidence, Amy! I too have been spitting up quite a bit. After lunch, after snacks, dinner...even when adults throw me up in the air. So I did my own Google search. "Why does Sheila spit up so often?" and the magic 8 ball, er, Google showed me tons of articles advising me to stop drinking so much. Just like Lucy.

Club 852: Not just for Lisle anymore

FREEDOM!!!! Well, it seems like freedom. Lucy has quite possibly been CURED from her spit-a-logical disorder!! She really is quite healthy, but she spits up on a frequent basis. So, after many months of changing clothes, washing tons of laundry, and generally smelling, I GOOGLED, "Why does my baby spit up?" And lo and behold, they said, "Feed her less liquid." I did.....and she has NOT spit up all day!!!! What a concept. Why didn't I know this for Emma, former spit-up queen of the universe? I am thrilled beyond beyond. It's true. Call me.

cousin sandrine

She was a tall girl, shy, with red/brown hair, who referred to "girls" as "gheerllz". She ate with a fork and knife at the same time, sort of like a German. She dutifully took the monster out for hour long walks on the beach, complete with yellow fuzzy ball. He came back exhausted and curious: why didn't *we* take him out for such consistently excellent walks? She spent a lot of time on her computer. Chatted with friends in the afternoon. Chatted with us at night. In the daytime, she yodelled. She came to us in Ste Agathe, loaded with rose wine, some special chocolates of the small kind. The kind you needed to unwrap four at a time and pop them into your mouth. In the morning Maria would get into her car and do her rounds, while tall girl from the French Alps ate her bread and jam and tea, sort of like a Brit. Maria liked keeping up with the busy antics of business people in Ste Agathe near our deli. The Chinese guy at the corner, the woman with triple-toned hair across the street, the knife sharpener on our block who opened only at weird times. The tough gangster, Chu-chu, who swore in American and then claimed that the English language lacked vocabulary. He has guns buried in one of the hills in town, apparently. He wore shorts from K-Mart circa 1979, complete with tube socks, bad-ass goatee and grayed pony-tail, complete with a girl's 10-speed bike. He'd spend twenty minutes threatening ghost bad guys and then take off in a huff on his bike.

Maria would then come back, pick up her cousin and take her for a scenic ride through the *other* towns, Val-Morin, Val-David, Ste Adolphe d'Howard...places we grew to love. Since moving to Ste Agathe we realized we were stuck in a town where most of the townspeople were basically weird little oompa loompas.

Just wait until summer, we'd regale Frenchie. More barbecues. Jacques is a sensitive guy, a real sweetheart. But he eats barbecue meat with his hands like a barbarian. Wait for Jerome. And Matthieu and Amelie. And the guitar players. And Joe Skaggs. Melanie with her house in a neighborhood of beavers and moose, bears and deers and otters. No other houses. And weekends on one of their lakes. And then the garlic spray for the mosquitos. And the firework competitions in Montreal all of July. Last year Portugal rocked the house! And wait for the Festival du Jazz. And a drive-in movie in Laval. Maybe we go to Ottawa, to Toronto, to the beach house, to the cousins' places, to this and that and then some. But then the phone call came and France was all nutty still. Nothing I could see on the news. But the country has been rocked by strikes by the students. Close to civil war, we were told. Which messed up all of the businesses. And the universities had to change their academic schedules so that our visitor had to leave Canada asap or else she wouldn't be able to take her general exam in her master's program, and then she'd have to re-take the entire year over. She packed. We prepared the monster for her leaving and getting shorter walks in the future. "She's leaving, get used to it," we informed him. His tongue still stuck out. His ass still looked like a loaf of bread. Phone calls, and last-minute trips to see the vital things, and as many people as possible, ensued. We lost our habits. We had our routine. But so did Cousin Sandrine.

Testing to see if the 2nd time works

It's quite possible that this works now. Goodbye.

Tap, tap, is this thing on?

Hey Sheila! Thanks! It worked! It had nothing to do with my email address, as that's not part of my login. We'll see how long this lasts. Hmm...I have power now to post, what should I say? So many thoughts. I do have a question for you Sheila: Were you as bossy as a kid as Emma is now? Just curious, I don't recall. Maybe Mike can better answer that.
